While CBD maintains its vast popularity in the market, consumers are becoming increasingly interested in exploring lesser-known cannabinoids such as CBN. At LUFF, we realize there is undoubtedly a demand for information regarding cannabis-derived compounds and their combinations. While there is a need for further clinical research on CBN, initial studies look hopeful. Previously, we shared the therapeutic benefits of CBG, so now let’s take a look at another cannabinoid that you may not be familiar with, and it’s called “cannabinol” or simply, CBN.
CBN, THE FIRST IDENTIFIED CANNABINOID
CBN has not reached the same height of popularity as cannabinoids like CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) despite being the first identified by scientists.
There are over a hundred different cannabinoids identified, but the most studied ones are CBD and THC for their therapeutic effects on humans. CBN delivers similar results as CBD and THC, and it deserves the spotlight.
CBN is usually found only on older plants. As the plant ages, it gets exposed to the elements, especially to high amounts of oxygen. The oxidation naturally converts the cannabinoid THC to CBN.
Cannabinoids have similar yet entirely different properties and effects. Commercial products may contain one or a combination of these compounds. Like THC and CBD as isolated extracts, we can take advantage of the properties of CBN as an individual cannabinoid.
IS CBN THE NEW CBD?
Both CBN and CBD are thought to be non-intoxicating, but CBN has been shown to have potential sedative effects, can help with immune function as well as anti-inflammatory capabilities.
At LUFF Brands, we curate quality CBD products, and we also want to make you aware of lesser-known cannabinoids, like CBN, that may also have potential therapeutic benefits. We surely heard of the many positive effects of cannabis-derived products, but choosing the right CBD product can be overwhelming.
And now, more than ever, with the discovery of new cannabinoids, we have to educate you about what is out there. We make it our mission to present you with reliable information to help you make sound choices.
WHAT PRODUCTS CONTAIN CBN?
At LUFF Brands, we have a sophisticated line of products designed to empower your everyday. Our DREAM line which is geared towards sleep contains CBN. These products contain 150mg of CBN per selling unit and are designed to fit within your everyday schedule. You can find more details on our CBN Dream line in our LUFF SHOP.
DOES THIS GET ME HIGH?
The short answer is no. Generally thought to be non-intoxicating, meaning that CBN won’t give you a “high” on its own, however, a study showed that it could increase some physiological and psychological effects of THC.
Meaning, it just might increase the high from THC. As a precaution, it is crucial to choose only products with safe amounts of cannabinoids and cannabinoid combinations.
POTENTIAL THERAPEUTIC BENEFITS
CBN is chemically similar to CBD with shared therapeutic effects. These include pain relief, anti-inflammation, and a sedative (recently debatable, more on this later).
CBN affects hormones and neurotransmitters by interacting with the endocannabinoid system, influencing pain reception, immunity, mood, energy, and focus.
CBN has many potential therapeutic benefits, but the research is minimal and preliminary. Check out the initial scientific studies below that suggest where CBN may be beneficial.

- CBN as an antibacterial agent: Research shows that CBN is an antibacterial cannabinoid. It is also effective against Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), methicillin-resistant microbial strains that are highly resistant to most pharmaceutical antibiotics.
- CBN for eye health: Several studies show that CBN may help in treating some eye diseases. As seen in a study wherein CBN was administered, the endocannabinoid system may be a potential target for the treatment of glaucoma.
- CBN as an anticonvulsant: Although not a strong as CBD, CBN has shown to have anti-convulsant capabilities, which can be useful in epilepsy treatment.
- CBN for inflammation: Like CBD and CBG, CBN appears to have anti-inflammatory capabilities. Inflammation brought about by attack to the immune system has also demonstrated a positive response to CBN.
- CBN for pain-relief: A medical research show CBN may influence neurons that are sensitive to capsaicin, an ingredient used In creating topical pain relievers.
- CBN for bone health: CBN may potentially help in reversing osteoporosis. Studies have shown that CBN, along with other cannabinoids, may be the key to activating stem cells to create new bone cells.
- CBN as an appetite stimulant: CBN may help in increasing appetite in people who struggle to maintain one, whether because of illness or treatment. Studies show CBN increases appetite, while CBD suppresses.
- CBN as a sedative: Although studies do show the sedative effects of CBN, there is more to learn. As previously mentioned, CBN might not be sedating on its own— but increases the sedating effect of other cannabinoids like THC and other terpenes.
Interest in CBN is increasing as the popularity of CBD continues to grow. With so much potential, we will soon see more CBN and CBN-combination products in the market.
